When Is It Time to Consider a Dental Bridge?
Posted on 4/20/2018 by Dr. Frank Sallustio
If you have had a tooth extracted or lost as a result of an accident, you need to have the gap left filled as soon as possible. Leaving the gap open can be detrimental to your oral health. The space left by the missing tooth will cause the jawbone to resorb. Your teeth may begin to shift and the shape of your face may change with time. A dental bridge is a viable option for people who have need to fill that gap. There are some situations that may require you to have the device fitted. Adjacent Teeth that Need CrownsA dental bridge is a prosthesis that acts as a bridge between two teeth. The device is anchored against the teeth adjacent to the gap. The anchor teeth have to be filed down to allow the bridge to fit. The changes made to allow the tooth to fit are permanent which means you'll have to get a new crown when the bridge is removed. A dental bridge may be suitable for people whose neighboring teeth have large caps or will need crowns in the future. Implant procedures are extensive and the recovery period is considerably longer, since the implant has to fuse with the jawbone. A bridge treatment is a good option for anyone who does not want to go through extensive procedures. The procedure will typically take a few weeks, as opposed to several months needed for an implant. Additionally, the risk of the treatment failing is lower. In case any issues arise, the bridge can be removed and replaced without having to undergo invasive procedures. If you need more information on implants and dental bridges do not hesitate to call us today....
