How Long Should You Leave Your Dentures Out Each Night?

Posted on 7/20/2018 by Dr. Frank Sallustio
How Long Should You Leave Your Dentures Out Each Night? There are many questions our patients ask when they have dentures. That is normal. Most people do not know all the things they need to know about dentures.

There are many reasons that people don't get the information or that they don't ask all the questions.

One of the things they need to know is how long they should take the dentures out at night when they go to sleep. The answer to this question can help with the comfort of the dentures and how long they will last.

Why Take Dentures Out?

We recommend taking dentures out daily. There are several reasons for this. The first is to properly clean the dentures. Cleaning the dentures is a process that uses a denture brush or soft toothbrush to clean the face and back of the dentures.

The dentures also soak in a cleaning solution while they are out. When the dentures are taken out it is also an opportunity to clean the gum. This is also done with a soft toothbrush or denture brush. The goal of cleaning the dentures and the gums is to remove any bacteria that are present.

How Long Does This Take?

Brushing the dentures and gums is not a long process It is like brushing your real teeth. It is something that only requires a few minutes of time every day. When you first get the dentures, it is a good idea to leave to leave them in the mouth overnight.

This will help us locate any spots that do not fit properly. If there is any soreness in the gums after leaving the dentures in overnight, it is a sign they need adjustment. Once you get past the initial fitting time, it is best to leave the dentures our for 6 to 8 hours at a time. Leaving them in can cause problems with the gums, especially for people who suffer from bruxism.
