![]() One of the things you may notice after your surgery is that your gums bleed. This is quite normal. However, you shouldn't ever bleed a lot. If you do, it indicates that something isn't right. How Long Does the Bleeding Last?Usually, the bleeding lasts at most 72 hours. For many people, the implant sites stop bleeding within a couple of days. If your mouth continues to bleed for more than 72 hours after your implants were installed, you should give us a call. If it's just a little bit of bleeding, it may not be serious, but it is something we need to be aware of.How Much Blood Is Normal?Generally, blood only slowly oozes out around the implant sites. We will place gauze in the area to help stop the bleeding immediately after surgery. You can always hold some gauze in your mouth to stop any additional bleeding. In some patients, heavy bleeding isn't uncommon. If you notice that you start bleeding more than you did after the procedure, you should call us.Implants Shouldn't Cause Later BleedingOnce your mouth has healed, you shouldn't experience any bleeding around the implant sites. If you do, something is likely amiss, and you'll need to schedule an appointment to have your implants examined. You may have cut your gums, or there could be an issue with the implant posts.Bleeding is not normal with implants and is definitely a sign that there's a problem.
