![]() Why Your Crown may be LooseThere are many reasons for loose crowns. This doesn't only happen when you've had a traumatic injury, or you haven't properly cared for your teeth. It can also simply grow old or you may have eaten something stick that loosened it. You'll know that one of these things has happened because you'll feel it wobbling around on your teeth or irritating your gums if it doesn't completely fall out of your mouth. What to do When you Have a Loose Dental CrownOnce you notice that you have a loose crown you may be tempted to play with it, but you shouldn't. Instead, you should do everything possible to prevent the crown from moving including avoiding sticky and hard foods and chewing on the opposite side of your mouth. It's also a good idea to use some temporary dental cement until you can visit our office. This will temporarily hold your crown in place, so you don't lose it or damage your tooth. It'll also reduce your tooth's sensitivity, but don't use this as a long-term fix. Make sure you let us know immediately after you notice a loose crown. If you're in pain, we will consider this an emergency and work to get you into our office as soon as possible. This is because we understand the stress that comes with having a loose crown. If you find yourself in this situation, make sure you give us a call so we can schedule a time for you to come into our office to get your crown fixed. |
