General Rules to Live by When You Have Full Dentures

Loss of teeth can have negative effects in many ways. Many are fortunate to have restored both function and appearance with dentures. However, dentures just as natural teeth need daily care to do their best for your oral health and for you to look your best. So, there are some general guidelines that we always want you to follow.
General Rules When Caring for Dentures
It is imperative to always keep your dentures as clean as possible, that means clean and clear of plaque and tartar and stains just as you would your natural teeth. Use a soft toothbrush with a gentle soap or denture paste to clean them daily not only for your continued oral health, but to keep your dentures looking their best.
Dentures are fragile. No one is going to be able to save a pair of dentures that has been broken to pieces, so great care is needed when taking them in and out of your mouth. Be sure to hold a towel over them when cleaning in case you would drop them. When brushing, it is advised that you not use any harsh toothpastes or brushes that may damage the surface. Also, be sure to always keep them safe from any small children and pets.
Your mouth needs a breather from your dentures at some time during the day or night, so your mouth can have a break from the friction of wearing them. Be sure to soak your dentures in a warm water solution as this will help them from drying out. After you take your dentures out, be sure to take a few moments to rinse out your mouth out with water as well and gently clean your gums with a soft bristled toothbrush or clean soft cloth. If you neglect the care of your gums, infections could develop, and this will make it painful as well as difficult to wear your dentures.
