Dentures Could Be Leading to Your Bad Breath

Posted on 10/11/2021 by Dr. Frank Sallustio
Dentures Could Be Leading to Your Bad BreathDentures are oral appliances used to replace missing teeth. They are fitted into your mouth and function like natural teeth. With them, your smile will be restored, and you will be able to chew food properly. However, as much as dentures help restore your mouth functionality, they can lead to bad breath if you don't take good care of them.

Dentures and Bad Breath

Just like your natural teeth, tartar and plaque can build up around your dentures and result in bad breath. Luckily, there are several steps you can take to prevent that and maintain clean and healthy dentures. After enjoying a meal, food particles may remain underneath your dentures and trigger a bad breath. Keep in mind that plaque caused by stuck food particles forms a layer around the dentures, leading to a build-up of bacteria and a bad odor. Failing to brush or clean your dentures on a daily basis will result in bad breath due to the presence of harmful bacteria. Furthermore, wearing your dentures all the time can trigger unpleasant odors.

To prevent bad breath when wearing dentures, you should clean them daily to get rid of plaque and stuck food particles. This will help keep them fresh and give you the confidence you crave. When it comes to cleaning dentures, you can follow three important steps: soak, brush, and rinse.

One of the most reliable ways to clean your dentures is by soaking them in a special denture cleanser. You can also use a denture adhesive to clean your dentures. Adhesives help prevent food particles from getting lodged underneath your dentures. They do so by creating a seal around the dentures. This will help keep them healthy and prevent bad breath. As a result, you will interact with others freely. Get in touch with us for more information on denture care.
